Rae Lyn Pighin

Born in the saddle

Meet Rae-Lyn — Owner, Horsewoman, Mama, and Heart Behind the Brand

Rae-Lyn was practically born in the saddle. Raised in a rodeo-rooted family, horses have never been a hobby — they’ve been a way of life. From an early age, she learned the values that shape true horsemanship: grit, humility, feel, and an unwavering respect for the horse.

Her journey is one of continual growth. Rae-Lyn invests deeply in her craft, studying through clinics and mentorship in horsemanship, cattle work, liberty, colt starting, and foundational softness. She holds immense respect for her mentor, Bruce Christie of Cowley, Alberta — a horseman who has profoundly influenced her approach to training and feel. Under his guidance, she continues to refine her skills, always remaining a student of the horse.

At Spur Valley Horses, you’ll find Rae-Lyn:

  • Guiding backcountry trail rides
  • Teaching riding lessons rooted in feel and foundation
  • Working and developing horses
  • Leading kids camps
  • Coaching Equine Assisted Learning programs

She believes horses change lives — because they changed hers.

The Next Generation
Standing proudly beside her are Corbin (left) and Mia-Rose (right) — Rae-Lyn’s greatest blessings and the future up-and-comers of the ranch. Raised with reins in hand and dirt on their boots, they are growing up with the same values: respect the horse, work hard, stay humble, and lead with heart.

At Spur Valley Horses, this isn’t just a business. It’s a family legacy in the making.
Family. Horses. Hearts. Connection.

That’s what matters most around here.

Randi
Spur Valley Horses
Guide

Randi

She found her way in the saddle — and never left it.

Randi’s love for horses began at six years old. The first time she sat in the saddle, she was hooked — and that passion has shaped her life ever since.

Her roots are in the English discipline, specifically jumping, where she spent her younger years leasing, borrowing, and learning on any horse she could. After a short break in her early twenties, she returned to the saddle — this time embracing western riding and the lifestyle that comes with it.

Last summer, she purchased her first horse, Cricket — a milestone that marked years of dedication and commitment to the journey.

Today, you’ll find Randi and Cricket mountain riding, hunting, competing in Ultimate Cowboy Challenges, and continually learning through clinics and mentorship. She’s deeply passionate about horsemanship and believes in always remaining a student of the horse.

Along the way, horses have given her more than experience — they’ve built community, lifelong friendships, and lessons in grit, patience, humility, and leadership. For Randi, horses aren’t just a passion — they’re a way of life. And no matter where life takes her, she will always choose the saddle.

We’re so grateful to have her guiding rides here at Spur Valley Horses.

Ken Stahl — “Uncle Buck”

Raised in the dust. Built for the people.

From the moment you pull into the yard at Spur Valley Horses, chances are you’ll be greeted by a wide smile, a firm handshake, and a warm “How’s it goin’?” — that’s Uncle Buck.

Ken Stahl, affectionately known as Uncle Buck, is the steady heartbeat of our front office. He’s the friendly face checking riders in, handing out waivers and helmets, answering questions, and making sure every guest feels right at home before they swing a leg over a saddle.

Born and raised in the ranching and rodeo world, Ken grew up at the historic Stahl Rodeo Grounds — the original site of the annual Cranbrook Rodeo and Maverick Riding Club events. Alongside his five sisters and two brothers, he was raised in the dust, grit, and glory of true western tradition. That upbringing shaped the kind, hardworking, quick-witted man our community knows and loves today.

Well known locally as a former business owner, talented musician, and ranch hand
extraordinaire, Ken carries a lifetime of stories and a deep respect for the western way of life. He understands the land, the horses, and the value of genuine connection.
Now residing at the Pighin Ranch, Uncle Buck plays an important role in the launch of Spur Valley Horses. He’s more than our Office Manager — he’s family.

You’ll find him in the office tipping his hat, helping little cowpokes get fitted for helmets,
sharing a laugh, strumming a tune now and again, and making sure every rider feels
welcomed like they’ve just come home to the ranch.

At Spur Valley Horses, where horses and hearts join, Uncle Buck is the first smile that makes you feel part of the family.

1972 – Present | Still Riding Side by Side

Behind every strong outfit stands a steady foundation — and at Spur Valley Horses, that foundation was built by Kim and Rosanne.

Riding together since they could walk, these two women carry a lifetime of grit, experience, and devotion to the western way of life. Horses have never been a hobby — they’ve been heritage, livelihood, and legacy.

Rosanne was born into ranching and rodeo roots, where hard work and horsemanship were simply expected. She went on to operate trail riding businesses and guide riders through mountain and timber, helping countless people build confidence and connection through horses.

Kim grew up with four sisters and three brothers at the historic Cranbrook Rodeo Grounds, immersed in ranch and rodeo life from the beginning. Responsibility came early, and horses were woven into every chapter of her story — shaping the steady leadership she carries today.

Together, they are the heart behind Spur Valley Horses — the generation that laid the
groundwork and set the standard. You’ll still find them riding the open trails side by side, proudly watching the next generation carry it forward.

This isn’t just what they do.
It’s who they are.

Becca

Becca wasn’t just introduced to horses — she was raised alongside them.

From the time she was a little girl, the pasture was her safe space and the saddle was her freedom. Her first pony, Blondie, wasn’t just a childhood memory — she was the beginning of everything. When she felt like she didn’t quite fit in at school as a kid, she always fit in beside a horse. When life felt overwhelming, she’d head to the pasture, breathe deep, and let the rhythm of hoofbeats steady her heart.

Horses didn’t just keep her company — they shaped her.
They taught her responsibility when no one was watching.
They humbled her when confidence got ahead of ability.
They asked for patience, consistency, and heart.

They helped her grow into a strong, steady woman who shows up fully — even on the hard days.

There’s a quiet strength about Becca. The kind that doesn’t chase attention. The kind that handles what needs to be handled and keeps things moving forward.

At Spur Valley Horses, she’s the steady force behind the scenes — overseeing finance and administration, managing the details, keeping the books balanced, the schedules organized, and the foundation strong. She makes sure the structure underneath the dream is solid, so the rides, the programs, and the connections can unfold seamlessly.
Because for Becca, this isn’t just paperwork or numbers.

It’s horses.
It’s purpose.
It’s home.

And we’re proud to have her riding alongside us.

Brodie

Amazing western family heritage runs strong in him.

Brodie is family — steady, dependable, and happiest with dirt on his boots. Most at home
where the trees stretch wide and the horses stand quiet, he’s always been drawn to the
western lifestyle and has carried a deep respect for horses and the land from a young age.

You’ll find Brodie tail guiding on the trail, making sure every guest feels safe, confident, and taken care of. He’s also the backbone behind our western cookout programs — handling the fire, the food, and providing live music for our valued guests.

Brodie doesn’t just work here — he lives it. And we’re proud to have him as part of the SVH team.

Horses have always meant more to me than just animals in a field. I’ve been around them since I was five years old, and from the very beginning, they became my teachers, my partners, and my steady place in the world. Horses are home to me.
Growing up with horses has shaped not only my interests, but my character. They’ve taught me responsibility, patience, and grit. Building trust with such a powerful animal takes courage and self-belief. Every ride is a partnership, and every success is earned through preparation, effort, and hard work.

When challenges come — whether it’s mastering a new skill or learning from a mistake — I’ve learned to stay determined instead of discouraged. That mindset carries into every part of my life, from school to work to personal goals.

Barrel racing has always held a special place in my heart. I’ve come a long way from where I started, and I’m proud of the growth I’ve made in the arena. The fire and passion I had as a little girl chasing barrels is still with me today.

I’m so excited to see you all this summer at Spur Valley Horses!

Jessi

Growing up, I was always drawn to horses and the western lifestyle. I began taking riding lessons at just four years old, which only strengthened my dream of owning a horse of my own.

At thirteen, I started showing cattle, which soon led to showing sheep and competing at the Calgary Stampede. Through that experience, my steers and I were proud to be named among the Top 15 National Young Cattlemen in Canada.

When I was fourteen, I was given the opportunity to have my own horse, Hansel — who was also fourteen at the time. He quickly became a constant in my life. Together, we’ve competed in barrel racing, pole bending, roping, goat tying, and trick riding — each discipline teaching me something new.

This season, I’ll also be spending weekends on the road riding ranch broncs with the WRBA, building perseverance, determination, and endurance both in and out of the arena.

Over the years, working with livestock has taught me invaluable lessons in patience,
communication, responsibility, trust, and hard work — lessons that extend far beyond the barn.

I’m looking forward to seeing what this season at Spur Valley brings and the connections that will be formed through the horses.

You’ll find Jessi as one of our head guides on trail rides, leading kids camps, working horses, assisting with lessons, and helping create meaningful experiences for every rider who comes through our gates.

Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. They’ve always been who I turn to when the world feels heavy.

Every single day, horses teach us the most important lessons — patience, trust, respect, and humility. It never stops amazing me how much they are willing to give, and how deeply they shape the people who work alongside them.

I love helping others build a relationship with horses because so many people are quietly carrying things you can’t see. Horses have a way of making the world feel just a little bit lighter — and sometimes that’s all it takes to change everything.

My favorite sport in the horse world is breakaway roping. Watching it at a rodeo is always the best part for me — and getting to throw my rope brings me so much joy. Looking back on the progress my horse and I have made means more to me than any competition ever could.

Horses will teach you.

They will challenge you.

And they’ll bring out a part of you that you never knew you needed.

I can’t wait to see you all this summer.

Lilyann
Spur Valley Horses
Wrangler

Lilyann

Lilyann’s love for horses runs as deep as her roots. From the time she could walk, she was drawn to them — and by eight years old, she was in the saddle chasing a dream she carried for years. Nearly two years ago, that dream became reality when she welcomed her own horse into her life.

A returning Spur Valley Wrangler, Lilyann brings a steady hand and a kind heart to
everything she does. Her calm presence makes both horses and people feel at ease — a gift you can’t teach, only live.

You’ll often find her roping and chasing cows with her horse, Jynnx — her favorite kind of fun. But what she treasures most are the quiet solo rides, just her and her horse, riding out with nothing but open country and time to breathe. For Lilyann, that’s where the real connection lives.

Horses have a way of speaking without words. They don’t judge. They don’t rush. They
simply meet you where you are. With them, she can truly be herself — and that unspoken understanding is something she holds close to her heart.

We’re proud to have Lilyann back in the saddle with us this season. Her love for the horse, the land, and the people around her is what Spur Valley Horses is all about.
Family. Feel. Foundation.
